| Fire crews were alerted to a watercraft in distress just outside Somers Cove Marina. The Department of Natural Resources and Coast Guard were unavailable to respond. Marine 2 responded with Assistant Chief Paro and two firefighters. While en route, Somerset Central advised that three people on a 24-foot boat had lost power. Responders searched for the vessel but did not initially locate it near the reported area. Somerset Central contacted the boat, received updated coordinates, and instructed the vessel to communicate via VHF radio. After approximately 15 minutes, the vessel was located. Assistant Chief Paro established command. All occupants were found safe and did not require medical attention. The vessel was safely towed back to Somers Cove Marina with an estimated arrival time of 30 minutes. Once at the dock, crews assisted in securing the boat. The situation was placed under control. Command was terminated and Marine 2 returned to quarters. |
