Become a Crisfield Volunteer Fire Department Online Interest Form

Join the Crisfield Volunteer Fire Department

Joining the Crisfield Volunteer Fire Department is an opportunity to serve your community, learn valuable life skills, and become part of a proud tradition of neighbors helping neighbors.

Volunteer firefighters and support members play an important role in protecting the Crisfield community. In communities that rely on volunteer emergency services, local members help maintain fire protection, rescue response, emergency medical support, and readiness for storms, accidents, fires, medical emergencies, and other incidents. Because volunteers often live and work in the same area they serve, they bring local knowledge, community trust, and a personal commitment to helping others.

Why Volunteer?

Volunteering with the Crisfield Volunteer Fire Department offers personal, professional, and community benefits. Members gain hands-on experience in emergency response, fire suppression, first aid, rescue operations, emergency medical services, teamwork, leadership, and the safe use of specialized equipment.

These skills can be valuable in everyday life and may also support future careers in firefighting, EMS, healthcare, emergency management, law enforcement, or public service. Many volunteers use their experience to build resumes, earn references, explore career paths, and develop confidence in high-pressure situations.

Just as important, volunteering provides a strong sense of purpose. Members have the satisfaction of knowing they are helping protect their neighbors, supporting their community, and contributing to something larger than themselves.

Training and Skill Development

No previous emergency services experience is required to get started. Members receive training to help them serve safely and effectively.

Training opportunities may include fire suppression, emergency medical services, rescue skills, hazardous materials awareness, safety procedures, incident command, and other public safety topics. Many courses are available through organizations such as the Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute and the Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems, often at no cost to the member.

The training provided through the fire service builds practical skills that can be used on emergency scenes, at work, at home, and throughout life.

Flexible Ways to Serve

There is more than one way to be part of the Crisfield Volunteer Fire Department. Members may serve as active firefighters, EMS providers, drivers, support personnel, administrative members, fundraising volunteers, public education assistants, or associate members.

This flexibility allows people of different ages, backgrounds, abilities, and schedules to contribute in a meaningful way. Whether you are interested in emergency response or would rather help behind the scenes, there is a role for those who want to support the department and the community.

Cadet Membership

For young people ages 16 to 18, the cadet program offers a safe and structured introduction to the fire service. Cadet membership gives teens the opportunity to learn about fire, rescue, and emergency medical services while being mentored by experienced department members.

Cadets develop leadership, teamwork, responsibility, communication, commitment, and problem-solving skills. They may assist with training activities, community events, public education, fundraisers, and department support functions while learning the values and traditions of the fire service.

The cadet program can also be a stepping stone for those interested in future careers in firefighting, EMS, healthcare, emergency management, or other public safety fields. As cadets grow and meet age, training, and membership requirements, they may have opportunities to pursue additional certifications and transition into active volunteer roles.

Cadet membership is designed to be flexible enough to balance with school, family, sports, work, and other responsibilities, while still offering a meaningful way to serve the community.

Build Skills, Relationships, and Opportunities

The Crisfield Volunteer Fire Department offers more than training and emergency response. It offers the chance to become part of a team.

Members build friendships, professional connections, leadership experience, and a strong sense of responsibility. They learn how to work with others, solve problems, communicate clearly, and remain calm under pressure. These qualities are useful in public safety, in the workplace, and in everyday life.

For many families, volunteering is also a tradition passed from one generation to the next. For others, it is a new beginning and a way to become more involved in the community.

Become Part of the Tradition

Joining the Crisfield Volunteer Fire Department is about service, commitment, and community. Whether you want to respond to emergencies, support the department behind the scenes, or begin as a cadet, your time and effort can make a real difference.

The department welcomes those who are ready to learn, serve, and help protect the community we call home.
