Hay Bale Fire

July 7, 2026

Station 2 was dispatched to assist multiple neighboring stations in responding to a large hay bale fire that threatened a nearby chicken house. Tanker 200 responded with Assistant Chief Cavanaugh and two firefighters, while Brush 204 responded with Assistant Chief Paro and four firefighters. Assistant Chief Love from the Marion Volunteer Fire Department acted as incident commander. Additional line officers were present to provide further support, and a significant number of firefighters were required for the operation.

Firefighters used large equipment to move and spread the hay bales, making ground operations challenging due to the conditions. The response involved several engines and tankers working together to transport water to the scene, and a drafting site was established in the 31000 block of Rehobeth Road. The Fire Marshal and the Forestry Department were also called to the scene. Due to the size of the fire, operations remain ongoing.

As the situation improved, several tankers were released from the scene. Assistant Chief Love expressed gratitude for the efforts of all the crews involved. Units were gradually cleared throughout the evening as conditions allowed.

Command was terminated at 2 a.m. The operation required the dedication of many firefighters, line officers, and support staff, all of whom worked effectively together. No firefighter injuries were reported. Thanks is extended to all who assisted in the response.
